Moonlit Riverbanks
after Mihai Eminescu
In the somber light of a moon now full the river’s dark voice begins to unfold a lament of ancient stones and waters cold that have witnessed the passage of countless nights and the slow erosion of the mountains’ might where forests stretch like dark and silent wings and the wind stirs not a single leaf or twig
In this stillness the river’s voice is clear a murmuration of the universe’s dark fear that seeps into the soul like the chill of night and fills the heart with the weight of endless light that shines upon the waters like a ghostly glow illuminating all that lies beneath and below
I drew from Mihai Eminescu's fascination with nature and the mystical, merging the personal with the cosmic in a dark and serene landscape. His use of formal diction and complex syntax also influenced the poem's tone and structure.
