Forgotten Workshop
after Karel Hynek Mácha
In the cramped room, tools lie still on wooden benches, worn smooth by hands that shaped and polished the wood that now holds them prisoner
A half-finished chair, its legs splayed like a dead animal, waits for the touch that will bring it to life, or at least make it useful, free it from this limbo
The air is thick with the smell of sawdust and oil, the scent of creation and decay a reminder that even in stillness there is a kind of beauty, a kind of life
I borrowed Mácha's attention to the intricacies of the natural world and his tendency to find beauty in decay, and applied it to a small, concrete scene of an abandoned workshop. I took his poetic fingerprint and used it to explore the idea of stillness and creation in a mundane setting.
